Your wedding journey is yours.
We are honored to be considered for your big day! And your big day is just that - yours.
How far in advance should I place my order?
We are currently booking 2019 and 2020 weddings (as of January 2019). Weddings booked within a one month window may incur a 20% rush surcharge.
HOW DO I PLACE AN ORDER?
Easy! Go to our “Order” tab on the navigation bar at the top of the website, and choose the wedding inquiry button. Fill out that inquiry form, then you will get an auto-respond email confirming we got your submission, and a second with more detailed information. You may reply to either of these emails to continue the conversation if we don’t email you first!
WHAT DO YOUR CAKES COST?
All of our ingredients are hand-selected to be the best match - as well as strictly sourced and the highest quality - for our customized recipes and baking processes. Because of this process and the effort that we take to ensure the quality, as well as allergen and sensitivity precautions, you'll find that we are definitely not the cheapest cake pricing around - but it's because of these standards that we can confidently create products that we know will keep our clients that are conscious of health and wellness, quality, and sustainable agriculture happy. Wedding cakes start at $8 per serving.
DO YOU MAKE SHEET CAKES?
Yes, we do. As the quality of ingredients are the same, and it doesn’t take much less time to base-frost than a tiered cake, our sheet cake prices start at $6.50 per serving.
CAN I SCHEDULE A TASTING APPOINTMENT?
Of course! We offer complimentary* tastings for all of our wedding couples. For weddings booked with a total over $450, the tasting fee for the initial couple is deducted from your total.
*Tastings are only complimentary (deducted) if the wedding order total is over $450. Also, only the initial couple’s fee ($25, $30, or $40) is deducted - additional attendees or tasting surcharges are not deducted.
HOW DO I PAY FOR MY CAKE AND SECURE MY DATE?
For weddings, we require 30% of the total paid in the form of a non-refundable retainer, as well as the signed contract, to secure your date; the remaining 70% is due no later than 3 weeks prior to your wedding date, as outlined in your contract.
WHAT SIZE CAKE DO I NEED?
There are many factors to consider here. First, we usually direct in the form of ways of slicing a cake:
wedding or event portions - cut into 1”x2” rectangles across the top, which leaves slices about 7” tall or high
party potions - cut into 2”x2” squares across the top, which leaves slices about 7” tall or high - or cut into the traditional triangle birthday party style slices
We also take into consideration your friends’ and families’ preferences - are they sweets people, or are they nibblers? As well as what else will be served in the means of food - and when.
DO YOU OFFER FONDANT OR THEMED CAKES?
Here at Grain, we have a strict no fondant policy - as well as no artificial food dyes. So, we don’t really offer themed cakes. If your heart is set on this, we can refer you to a few bakeries who specialize in this - this just isn’t something that’s part of Grain’s purpose.
HOW SHOULD I HANDLE MY CAKE AFTER PICKING IT UP?
We suggest and encourage delivery on most all wedding orders - it’s just too big of a hassle (and risk) on such an important day.
Regardless, Grain cakes should be kept at room temperature for a minimum of 3-4 hours before serving. Very large cakes may require more time to warm to room temperature before eating. Most of our cakes can safely remain out of the fridge, at room temperature, for 8 hours (weather permitting). High temperatures or a very humid climate will significantly reduce the display time of your cake.
If your cake is being eaten immediately following pickup or delivery, please let us know and we will take your cake out of our fridge a few hours before. Cakes are like red wine -- they taste so much better at room temperature than when they're fridge-cold! If your cake is too cold when you eat it, it will seem much denser and drier than it really is.
Custom sugar toppers, such as sails, are best kept at room temperature; do not put these in the fridge or freezer, as the humidity will cause them to dissolve.
If you're transporting your cake over a long distance on a warm day, we recommend keeping the AC blasting (wear a sweater if you need to!). A chilled cake is much more stable during transport than a warm one. Custom cakes should never be kept in an unoccupied vehicle during warm weather, as the buttercream may melt and the sugar decorations may be ruined. We recommend bringing some towels to roll and place around the cake box for added security, as well as bringing a vehicle with a flat storage surface. Take turns and highway on/off ramps slower than you think you need to.
DO YOU DELIVER?
Yes and no, we do offer delivery for orders over $250 for a fee. We charge $1.25 per mile (each direction) for mileage, and $30 per hour including driving, ferry, and set-up time.
ANY OTHER POLICIES I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
Orders are not confirmed without payment.
Wedding cake designs and flavor selections need to be finalized at least three weeks before the event. Modifications after this point cannot be guaranteed, and may incur additional charges.
We offer additions (increases) to wedding orders, but not decreases.
